Interesting move by our Wally World leaders. I congratulate this move and wonder how it will impact online sales.
Just to be clear, Black Friday is still a thing fo r Walmart, it just doesn't start until Friday....why was it beginning before Friday, because money.

But will they keep the stores closed on Black Friday itself? They never should have been open on Thanksgiving anyway.

They shoulda made it more WOKE. Black Friday: Whites pay full price, everyone else gets a sale.
I suspect they see the writing on the wall with COVID. Those crowds would become mega spreading events.

“ending a Black Friday tradition that resulted in people being trampled to death”
FTFY.
Probably just as much about removing liability as it is about appearing socially responsible. Either way, I’d agree that it’s
a good move.
I
don’t understand the American tradition of expressing thankfulness and gratitude by waiting outside a store and rushing to buy as much cheap garbage as possible.

Tired: making majority racial groups pay more
Wired: making law enforcement and military pay more
Inspired: making everyone outside of Arkansas pay more

They aren’t ending Black Friday at all.
T hey are just not opening on Thursday, Thanksgiving D ay, for ‘early’ Black Friday sales.
Rest assured, they will be open at 7 AM on Black Friday.

Wow black friday is going to start
on friday?

This is a smart move. In most places they wouldn't be allowed to have a traditional black Friday presale anyway, given the trajectory of the virus and if they tried the employees in those areas where it wasn't prohibited would use under workplace safety laws and possibly win. This is accepting a business reality and spinning it in a way that makes them look responsible. This sort of calculus is probably part of the thinking with their new mask mandate. That said, given the current situation if you're pushing the needle in the right direction, I'm not bothered by your motives including some calculated self interest..

Better late than never. Happy for their employees.

Why does Arkansas get a pass?

People learned this year that they don't need to wait until November to riot, smash things, and beat each other up anyway.

Think of the poor Walmart workers that every year used the excuse that they had to work as a way to avoid holiday dinners! What are they going to do in order to avoid family gatherings now?

To be fair, I’ve heard they are requiring people to wear masks now. If so, good for them.

Well, they could always say they have symptoms, and say they have to self-isolate. That’ll at least cover them this year. :P

Sounds like Black Friday is still a go (SMH), but they’re going to stay closed on Thanksgiving now (good).
